The following content is based on our transcribed YouTube video and has been adapted for this article.
City Market in San Miguel de Allende
I have never been so impressed with a grocery store in all of my life so much so I had to bring my camera and record it so you can see exactly what I saw on my most recent visit to San Miguel de Allende, Mexico.
In this episode, we are going to explore one of my favorite grocery stores in Mexico we are going to explore City Market/ La Comer in San Miguel de Allende.
Take the Tour!
First Impressions
From the moment you arrive, the immaculate condition of La Comer’s premises stands out. The parking lot is spotless, and security is on-site to ensure a safe environment for shoppers. I could not wait to get inside to check it out further.
Immaculate
From the moment I stepped into this grocery store, I was impressed. Not only due to the security and the coffee shop to the right, but there is a beautiful outdoor cafe where you can drink your coffee and stay for a while.
Then when you are done sipping on your coffee, you proceed to tour and shop the aisles.
Well Lit and Fully Stocked
I love the lighting in the store – everything was lit up so you could see things clearly. In addition it was fully stocked.
I was visiting this particular grocery store in the afternoon – it wasn’t when they directly opened for the day although it would seem like it – the shelves were so organized.
Everything was completely full and I think the day that I recorded this was on a weekend. Have you ever seen a Walmart look as nice as this store? Are you just as impressed as I am?
City Market if you are watching this I applaud you!
I was even impressed with the carts they roll easily and are fun to drive.
Diverse and Fresh Departments
City Market offers an extensive range of departments, including a bakery, a seafood section with live lobsters, fresh cheeses, and a well-curated wine and beer selection. The cheese section features a variety of imported options, allowing you to enjoy your favorites even in Mexico. Additionally, the store boasts a restaurant where you can enjoy sushi at a bar, creating a unique dining experience right in the middle of your shopping trip.
Price and Value
While prices at City Market may be slightly higher than other stores, the quality and variety make it well worth the visit. Notably, there are minimal processed foods, (not as much as the USA, though processed foods still exist) which is a refreshing change for those accustomed to American supermarkets.
The checkout process is smooth and efficient, and remember to always tip your bagger, as is customary in Mexico.
My experience at City Market was exceptional, and I will be returning. Have you shopped at La Comer or visited the specific store in San Miguel de Allende? Share your thoughts and experiences in the comments!
