During a recent trip to Boston, I had the pleasure of staying at the HI Hostel in downtown Boston.

Location
The HI Hostel is perfectly situated in the heart of downtown Boston, making it an ideal base for exploring the city. Major attractions such as the Boston Common, Freedom Trail, and numerous museums are within walking distance. The proximity to public transportation also makes it incredibly convenient to visit more distant sites like Harvard University or Fenway Park. Being so close to the city’s vibrant core means you can easily immerse yourself in Boston’s rich history and culture without a car (unless you want to drive, that is).
Breakfast
One of the highlights of my stay was the complimentary breakfast. Each morning, guests are treated to a spread that includes a variety of cereals, fresh fruit, yogurt, pastries (bagel and toast), and hot beverages (coffee, tea).
This breakfast not only helps kickstart your day but also offers a chance to meet fellow travelers in the dining area.
Affordability
Finding affordable accommodation in downtown Boston can be challenging, but the HI Hostel offers a fantastic value for money. With its competitive rates, it’s a budget-friendly option that doesn’t compromise on quality or comfort. The hostel provides a range of room types, from private rooms to shared dormitories, catering to different preferences and budgets.
Proximity to Restaurants
Food enthusiasts will be delighted by the hostel’s proximity to a plethora of dining options. Just steps away, you’ll find an array of restaurants, cafes, and bars offering diverse cuisines. Whether you’re craving Italian, seafood, Asian, or classic American fare, you’re sure to find something to satisfy your palate. The hostel’s staff are always eager to recommend local favorites and hidden gems.
The closest restaurant is a nice pizza shop, that is literally next door as you take a left out the exit of the hostel. We stopped and had a bite. We ordered one slice of pizza, mushroom and it was so large two people could definitely share this one slice priced at just $6 at the time of our stay. The staff was friendly and accomodating and even though it was a late night when we had our pizza, we did not feel unsafe at all in the heart of Boston.

Note: It’s worth noting that there can be a bit of a taboo surrounding hostels, particularly for travelers from certain backgrounds. Some may perceive hostels as less safe or less comfortable than hotels. However, my experience at the HI Hostel in downtown Boston challenged these misconceptions. The hostel’s emphasis on cleanliness, security, and high-quality amenities ensures that guests enjoy a comfortable and safe stay. Additionally, the social aspect of hostels can be a major plus, offering opportunities to meet fellow travelers and share experiences that are often missed in more traditional accommodations.
Additional information: As an avid traveler who has traveled in hostels in Mexico and Europe and other parts of the USA, this hostel was top notch and am pleased to share my experience.
